Sulfuric acid generation from hydrogen sulfide

Chemical reaction for the sulfuric acid generation process:

overall: H2S+ 2O2 → H2SO4

  • Gaseous hydrogen sulfide reactant is combusted with limited oxygen to produce sulfur monoxide. First step: H2S+ O2 → H2O + SO
  • Sulfur monoxide further reacted with oxygen for sulfur trioxide. Second step: SO+ O2 → SO3

Finally by absorbing the sulfur trioxide with water sulfuric acid is produced.
